Error in DataSheet Ferrites

0

Hi, I checked official Hardware Design Guidelines https://docs.nordicsemi.com/bundle/nwp_054/page/WP/nwp_054/vdd1_vdd2.html

And I see that FB1 and FB2 are with values 120R/0.7A.

According to the official sheet it is stated that "Place low DCR (< 0.1 Ω) ferrite bead FB1 close to the VDD1 pin..."

I think that Ferrites of 0.7A have around 0.2Ω to 0.4Ω which is not following the request from the official guidelines or at least if it is fine we should point this out < 0.1 Ω

Hi Torciv,

Thank you for flagging this — you are absolutely right. Not all 120R/0.7A ferrite beads meet the DCR < 0.1 Ω requirement stated in the Nordic guidelines, and many commonly available options fall in the 0.2–0.4 Ω range, which would not be compliant.

After reviewing the options, we found a part that satisfies all three requirements simultaneously:

Murata BLM18PG121SN1D — 120R @ 100 MHz / 2A rated / DCR = 0.05 Ω

This is well within the < 0.1 Ω limit and provides additional current headroom beyond the 0.7A specification.

You can download the schematic symbol, PCB footprint, and 3D model for this part here:
https://www.snapeda.com/parts/BLM18PG121SN1D/Murata/view-part/

Please let us know if you have any further questions. Thank you!

Hi viktorrine and Karthikeyan thanks for checking this.

I will use this Murata model. As a reference and just in case someone finds it useful I leave here the link to the official nRF9161-DK. In Hardware files you can download the BOM and in fact there they are using the same model that Karthikeyan suggested to use.

Thanks!

Hi Torciv,

Great find! The fact that Nordic themselves use the same part in the nRF9161-DK reference design is a strong confirmation that it's the right choice. Thanks for sharing the link — it's a valuable reference for anyone working on a similar design.

Glad we could help!
