Why are origins different?

0

RKE-0505S/H and RYK-053.3S/H are the same through hole package. The RYK part has the origin in the middle and, as I understand it, the origin should be at pin 1 for a through hole part.

Hello, John! Thank you for contacting us.

Some manufacturers define Pin 1 placement differently, so standards may differ when the placement is confirmed by them. In this case, we have updated the 3D model to match the confirmed footprint, and you can now download and use the revised content in your designs.

If you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out. We’re here to help!

This isn't a 3D problem. It is an origin location issue. You say some manufactures define pin 1 placement differently. This is the same manufacturer. Whomever build the parts chose two different origins. They were not consistent. When one is replaced with the other, connections are no longer made. Either pin 1 ends up in the center of the other part or the center of the part ends up on pin 1.

By the way, the packages are slightly different so the cannot have the same 3D model.

Hello, John,

You are correct regarding the different locations; however, at this time, we do not have control over the centering of 3D models done outside of our Standards, as those are submitted by our community. We provide consistent footprint centering across a manufacturer when these standards are set, and we are actively working on a solution to automatically center 3D models in the future.

Additionally, the RKE-0505S/H and RYK-053.3S/H are indeed different in both size and pin configuration. You can check the dimensions in our viewer on each part page.

Please let us know if you have any other questions, we're here to help!

You say you do the footprints. So why are the origins different between the footprints? I fixed the issue by setting he origin to pin 1 instead of center for the footprint. you can do this under EDIT/Set reference/Pin 1 with the PcbLib file open.

this has nothing to do with the 3D.
